HOW TO BUILD A STRONG TEAM

HOW TO BUILD A STRONG TEAM

Building a strong team is very necessary in most, if not all working environments. Apart from the company identifying hidden skills in their employees, team buildings are fun and boost staff morale in general. This will then contribute to the company or organisation’s bottom line or productivity.

Even the most reserved of employees do become open in an environment of creative and fun learning. The most wonderful thing about teambuilding events has to be that everybody is working together for a common goal, and there is no superiority – everyone is at the same level. The formality of the office environment does not always encourage teams to get to know each other outside of the work environment. Often times, colleagues are surprised at each other’s personality, playfulness, general knowledge and interests when they work together during team building sessions, because the pressure to deliver is not the same as in the office and you just have to be yourself. Playing games together builds trust and communication amongst teams.

How to get the most from a teambuilding session

How to build a strong team

1. Let everyone have an equal chance of taking a leading

role – managers should avoid taking on leadership roles

2. Choose an environment outside of the office where people can dress comfortably and relax

3. Get an experienced teambuilding facilitator

4. Choose games that are fun, inspire creativity and thinking

5. If the team is divided into groups, make sure the groups are well-balanced, whatever that means to you

6. Back at the office, strive to continue what you have started during the team building session – working together as a team towards a common goal.

For success in the workplace, managers and leaders need to learn how to build strong teams.
