COUPLES COUNSELING FOR TROUBLED MARRIAGES/RELATIONSHIPS

COUPLES COUNSELING FOR TROUBLED MARRIAGES/RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships can be as complicated as they are fun. Very often married and unmarried couples find themselves in a

situation where they cannot resolve marital issues on their own – they need the objectivity of an outside party. Most couples’s relationships/marriages can be healed and saved through relationship counselling.

COUPLES THERAPY: WORKING TOGETHER AS A COUPLE TO SAVE YOUR MARRIAGE

Most counseling therapy sessions are organised by women (the same way doctors'visits are!). Most men are reluctant to give their problems to a third party - a stranger and would most likely resist any suggestions of going the therapy/counseling route. It is no wonder therefore that most divorces are initiated by women. For "counseling-phobic" men, a phrase like "we need to go for counseling" may sound as scary as "we need to talk".

It is important that you explain that the counselor will diagnose the core issues and help both of you to recognise areas of concern so that you can do things differently.

Men need to realise that a marriage counselor is a trained professional, an expert who will help them identify and deal with the root causes of their "relationship problems". The therapist is not there to make jugdments on anyone. Most marriages can be salvaged if couples want them to do the hard work of making it work.
