DATING AFTER DIVORCE: HOW LONG SHOULD ONE WAIT?

"DATING AFTER DIVORCE": HOW LONG SHOULD YOU WAIT?

Divorce is a stressful time for all involved, particularly for the children, who lose their sense of home, family and belonging. Children always manage to convince themselves that they contributed to their parents’ divorce.

When the mother or father finally decides to move on and start seeing other people, they often do so with less regard for the children. Just like mourning the death of a loved one, dating after divorce should put off until children have healed.

How long should you wait before starting to date after a divorce?

How long should you wait before starting to date after a divorce? HOW LONG WOULD IT TAKE FOR KIDS TO HEAL?

The real question is: how long would the kids need to heal after a divorce? I’m sure most kids would take forever to recover; but bringing in a new person to ‘replace’ their mom/dad – because that’s how they see it – after only a few months, will not achieve good results. Wait at least a year before you start to date.

DATING MISTAKES PARENTS MAKE

AVOID THESE DATING MISTAKES

Do not force the kids into adjusting quickly or into liking/loving the other person. Give them their space and time. Don’t ask them to call the new man dad or the new woman mom!

Have time to spend and do things with the kids alone – without the other person.
