Grandparents: Gems from another generation
"Grandparents"
In these modern days of fast living, and chronic diseases, having a parent when one is older is a huge gift. While having a parent is a gift, having a grand parent or grandparents is a complete blessing, for they are true gems! They are our link to the past and being close to one makes us wiser, and our lives richer – culturally, spiritually and morally. If you spend time with them, you gain the wisdom of the ages.
Those who are blessed enough to still have a grand parent should use that advantage wisely, while they are still around. Visit them, listen to stories from their past, drink from their fountain of wisdom, be open to their views and opinions about life. Do not rule them out as old-fashioned, for there’s a lot of truth and meaning in old people’s opinions and insights.
Listening to grand parents' stories and views
Grandparents usually have their own critical view of today’s lifestyles.
Listen to their opinions, they know what they are talking about. When my grandmother tells me I need to have as many kids as God would bless me with, I know that I do not have to do what she advises, but I do listen to what she has to say and most often than not, she would be a having a point. We just need to listen to their arguments, their reasoning, their interpretations. Those can only make us wiser and more open-minded.
So if you have a granny or a grandpa, stop whining about how slow they are, or how not modern they are. My guess is, you will miss them greatly once they are gone. Celebrate grand parents today…everyday.
