Grandchildren and the joys of grand-parenting

The relationship between grandparents and their grandchildren could easily be called one of the most rewarding and memorable relationships for both parties. This relationship is usually characterized by deep love and appreciation for each other; calmness; education; patience and understanding. Parents themselves often wonder what happened to their (previously) strict mom/dad, who now spoils their grand children rotten! Grannies are often too protective and would reprimand the parents for being tough on the kids.

Grandparents on their wonderful relations with their grandchildren - some reasons

“With your own kids, you know they are yours and therefore your whole responsibilty. We enjoy grand children more because they are not always there. When you are tired, you can always give them back to their parents” – Aletta, 58

“Grandparents are pretty good at parenting, God should have made planned for people to have kids when they are older; but then again, they wouldn’t have the experience.”

“As grannies, we have a wealth of experience to offer our grand kids and their parents. We are close to our grand children and sometimes we try and rectify the parental mistakes we have committed – and hoping that our kids (the parents) will learn from us.” – Emily, 71

"When a child is born, so is a grandmother"

"When a child is born, so is a grandmother" would make a wonderful gift for any new granny.
